Squarespace SEO: A Local SEO Checklist for Squarespace Business Websites

By Muhammad Amir, Searcora Digital Ltd

Squarespace SEO is mostly a checklist. Squarespace handles the technical basics — clean code, a sitemap, secure pages — and leaves the parts that decide local rankings to you: what each page is called, what it says, and whether each service and area has a page of its own. This page walks through the settings that matter and the local SEO a Squarespace site still needs.

Searcora Digital Ltd is a UK-registered company working remotely with businesses in the UK and abroad, on your Google Business Profile, your website and your listings. Google names three local ranking factors — relevance, distance and prominence — and each section below works on one of them; the full method is in how to rank higher on Google Maps.

Settings

Squarespace SEO settings, page by page

Each page has its own SEO settings, and the site has defaults you should set once.

  • Page settings > SEO: write the SEO title and SEO description for every page; Squarespace otherwise falls back to the navigation title.
  • URL slug: keep it short and readable, such as /wedding-photography-bath.
  • Site-wide SEO settings: set the title format and the homepage SEO description so search results do not show a generic template.
  • Sitemap: Squarespace publishes /sitemap.xml automatically; submit it in Google Search Console.
Schema

Business information and structured data in Squarespace

Fill in your business information in the site settings so your name, address and hours are consistent across the site. For full LocalBusiness structured data, add JSON-LD through Code Injection in the page or site header — available on Squarespace plans that include code injection. Keep the details identical to your Google Business Profile.

Pages

Service and area pages on Squarespace

Squarespace templates often push everything onto a single beautiful homepage. Add a page for each main service and for each real area you serve, each with its own SEO title, heading and genuinely different content. Use the heading styles as real headings — one Heading 1 per page — and write image alt text for the photos that show your work.

Local basics

The local SEO that matters on any platform

The platform only changes where the settings live. What ranks a local business is the same everywhere:

  • A Google Business Profile with the right primary category, linked to the matching page on your site — a location page for a shop, the homepage or a service page for a single-site business.
  • Name, address and phone written exactly as on the profile, in the footer and on the contact page.
  • One page per service and per real location, each answering what people search, not one page listing everything.
  • LocalBusiness structured data with your name, address or area served, phone and opening hours.
  • A fast mobile page with a tap-to-call button at the top — most local searches happen on phones.
Avoid

Squarespace SEO mistakes

These are the most common problems on Squarespace business sites.

  • No SEO title or description set, so Google shows the navigation label.
  • Duplicate pages left over from a template, such as an unused demo page that is still published.
  • Large uncompressed images slowing mobile pages.
  • Contact details only in an image or a form, instead of plain text in the footer.

How we start

How we start with Squarespace sites

  • Check the map pack for your main searches from a few points across the area you serve, to see where you appear and where you do not.
  • Compare your profile with the three that win — categories, services, reviews, photos and completeness.
  • Fix relevance first, because it moves fastest, then work on listings, reviews and local links for prominence.
  • Report what changed in calls, direction requests and website visits from the profile, not just positions.
