Local SEO in Singapore: Map Pack Rankings From the CBD to the Heartlands

By Muhammad Amir, Searcora Digital Ltd

Local SEO in Singapore is not one ranking. The businesses shown in the Google map pack change from one part of Singapore to the next, because Google weighs how close a business is to the person searching. This page explains how that works in Singapore, and what a business here can do about relevance and prominence — the two factors you can actually change.

Searcora Digital Ltd is a UK-registered company working with Singapore businesses remotely, on your Google Business Profile, your website and your local listings.

If you are comparing a local SEO agency in Singapore with a remote specialist, ask each one to check the map pack from your own planning area and the next one over, not from the CBD.

Proximity

Distance: why the Singapore map pack changes from area to area

Singapore is small, but it is planned as 55 areas across five regions, and people rarely cross the island for a local service. The CBD, Tanjong Pagar and Orchard in the centre, Jurong East and Clementi in the west, Woodlands in the north, Tampines and Pasir Ris in the east, and Punggol, Sengkang and Ang Mo Kio in the north-east each have their own malls, HDB town centres and map packs.

A search for “tuition centre” in Tampines and the same search in Jurong East are more than 20 km apart and return different centres.

You cannot move closer to every searcher, and you should not try: a Business Profile at an address you do not operate from breaks Google’s guidelines and is a common reason for suspension. A service-area business should set the areas of Singapore it genuinely covers; a business with real branches should have one profile per staffed location.

Relevance

Relevance: match the searches Singapore customers make

Food and beverage, tuition and enrichment, beauty and aesthetics, renovation and clinics are some of the most crowded categories; the narrowest accurate primary category and a full list of real services do more than a broad label.

  • Primary category: the narrowest accurate one for your main service.
  • Services and description: every real service, in the words customers search with.
  • A website page about the same service in Singapore: with your name, address and phone exactly as on the profile.
  • Your real business name only — keywords in the name break Google’s guidelines.
Prominence

Prominence: being known in Singapore

Google says prominence includes review count and ratings, links, articles and directories. In Singapore the local sources worth working on include:

  • Business chambers — the Singapore Business Federation, the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Singapore International Chamber of Commerce.
  • Mall and town-centre listings — mall tenant directories and HDB town-centre merchants’ associations.
  • Local news and lifestyle sites covering openings, food and services.
  • Industry associations with member directories for your sector.
  • Singapore citations kept consistent: Yellow Pages Singapore, Streetdirectory, Bing Places and Apple Business Connect, with the same ACRA-registered business name everywhere.
  • Reviews from real customers, asked for at the right moment, each one answered.
Addresses

Unit numbers, postal codes and mall addresses

Singapore addresses carry a unit number in the form #storey-unit and a six-digit postal code that identifies the building. Write them the same way on your Business Profile, website and every directory: #01-23 in one place and Unit 1-23 in another looks like two businesses to a machine. For a shop inside a mall, put the map pin on your unit, not the mall entrance.

Languages

English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil searches

Many Singapore customers search in English, but some search in Chinese, Malay or Tamil. Your Business Profile name must stay your real registered name, but your website can carry service pages in the languages your customers use, and replies to reviews can follow the language the reviewer wrote in.

How we work

How we start with a Singapore business

  • Check the map pack from three places — the CBD, Tampines and Jurong East — for the search you most want, so we see where you appear today and where you do not.
  • Compare your Business Profile with the three businesses that win: categories, services, reviews, photos and how complete each profile is.
  • Check your citations for the same name, address and phone across the directories above, and fix what does not match.
  • Agree the work in order — relevance fixes first, because they are fastest, then reviews, citations and local links for prominence across Singapore.
Near me

“Near me” searches in Singapore

“Near me” searches — “SEO expert near me”, “plumber near me” — are decided almost entirely by the map pack, so distance matters most. A Singapore business wins them with a complete, accurate Business Profile at its real location, strong reviews and consistent citations. Local SEO in Singapore: questions

Google ranks local results on relevance, distance and prominence. In Singapore you cannot change distance, so the work goes into the other two: the right primary category and a complete Business Profile for relevance, and genuine reviews, consistent citations and local links for prominence.
Because distance is weighed for every search. Even Singapore covers a lot of ground, and a searcher a few kilometres away sees a different map pack. Ranking more widely comes from stronger relevance and prominence, and from your website ranking in normal results for the service plus the area.
To appear in the map pack you need a Google Business Profile at a real address you operate from, or a service area if you visit customers. Using an address you do not operate from breaks Google's guidelines. Your website can still rank in normal results for searches about Singapore.
No. Searcora Digital Ltd is a UK-registered company and works with Singapore businesses remotely: the work happens on your Business Profile, your website and your local listings, not in an office.
It depends on how many locations and services you want to rank for and where your profile starts from. We quote after looking at your profile and the map pack you are competing in.
Yes. Distance still decides the map pack, and people usually look for services near home, work or their MRT station. A clinic in Woodlands rarely appears for a search made in Tampines.
