LinkedIn Premium Payment Error or Card Declined: Why It Happens and Other Ways to Pay
By Muhammad Amir, Searcora Digital Ltd · LinkedIn Help pages read 22 October 2026
You chose a plan, entered your card, and LinkedIn said no. It happens most with cards from banks that block international, online or recurring charges, which is common in many countries outside North America and Europe. This page lists the reasons LinkedIn itself gives for declined payments, the payment methods it accepts, the fixes that usually work, and how to get Premium or Sales Navigator when no card will go through.
Why LinkedIn declines a payment
LinkedIn’s help page on declined payments lists these common reasons. Knowing which one applies tells you who can fix it — you, your bank, or neither.
- Insufficient funds on the card or account.
- An invalid or expired payment method.
- A blocked charge — the bank or card issuer refused to approve it. This is what usually happens when a bank does not allow international or online card payments.
- A mismatched billing ZIP or postcode — the postcode you entered does not match the one your bank holds.
- Recurring transactions not allowed — Premium renews automatically, and some cards refuse recurring charges.
- India payment regulations — recurring card payments in India must meet RBI e-mandate rules, and not every card issuer supports them.
Payment methods LinkedIn accepts online
For subscriptions bought online, LinkedIn’s help page lists these methods:
- Cards: credit, debit and prepaid cards on American Express, Discover, Mastercard, Visa, JCB and Diners Club (Diners in US dollars only), and RuPay in India — though not every RuPay issuer meets the RBI e-mandate requirements.
- UPI for purchases made in India.
- PayPal, added as a new payment method: you are sent to PayPal to log in and complete the purchase. PayPal is not accepted for advertising.
- Apple Pay and Google Pay for new and recurring Premium purchases. An existing payment method cannot be switched to either.
- SEPA direct debit in some countries.
- In the iPhone app, purchases run through, and are managed in, your Apple account.
Contracts bought through LinkedIn’s sales team, such as multi-seat Sales Navigator, are invoiced and paid differently from online purchases.
Fixes that usually work, in order
Work through these before giving up on LinkedIn’s own checkout.
- Ask your bank to allow international online payments and recurring charges on the card, then try again.
- Check the billing postcode matches the one on your bank’s records exactly.
- Try another method LinkedIn accepts — PayPal, Google Pay or Apple Pay, or UPI in India.
- Buy on the desktop website if the app keeps failing. Purchases started in the iPhone app run through Apple instead.
- Do not retry many times in a row. Repeated declines can make a bank’s fraud checks block the card for longer.
When a renewal payment fails
If a Premium renewal fails, update the payment method in your Premium settings on the desktop site. If you no longer want the subscription, cancel it there rather than leaving a failed payment on file — our guide to cancelling LinkedIn Premium walks through it. Sales Navigator subscriptions bought online are managed the same way.
Getting Premium or Sales Navigator when no card works
If no card or wallet will go through, the remaining route is a fixed term activated on your own account. Searcora Digital Ltd is a UK-registered company and is not affiliated with LinkedIn. We activate fixed terms on your own LinkedIn account — as a licence seat on your sign-in email or an activation link you redeem yourself. No password is asked for and nothing renews. You pay once by Wise, Payoneer or bank transfer in US dollars, or through an Upwork contract on a first order. No card is stored, and you do not need an international card at all.

What not to do when your card fails
A declined card makes people take risks they would not otherwise take. These three are the ones that cost accounts.
- Do not give your card details or your LinkedIn password to a stranger who offers to pay for you.
- Avoid shared Premium accounts sold on marketplaces — the seller keeps the login, and shared logins get restricted.
- Avoid “free Premium” generators and modified apps. They are after your account, not your subscription.
